Read to Lead is a total immersion in Shared Reading, providing a comprehensive introduction to the experience and environment of The Reader’s unique read-aloud model. Since 2008, we have trained over 4,000 people to lead Shared Reading in their organisations and communities.

Delivered over three days or as a sequence of modules, Read to Lead’s outcomes include:

  • experiencing and enjoying the dynamics of Shared Reading groups
  • developing an understanding of Shared Reading’s potential to bring about change
  • exploring some of the ways in which Shared Reading creates a supportive space in which change can happen.

Read to Lead is specifically designed for:

  • staff members of partner organisations and volunteers who deliver Shared Reading groups in projects where they are supported by The Reader. Read to Lead models, discusses and supports the acquisition of Shared Reading delivery skills, providing a safe environment in which to try these out.
  • individuals or organisations seeking to discover more about The Reader’s work and to benefit from its unique Shared Reading model. For those wishing to further their understanding and boldly to stretch their emotional muscles, Read to Lead offers an intensive workout in the practice and ethos of Shared Reading.

Read to Lead can be tailored for specific sectors, such as: mental health; children and young people; older people; people living with dementia; criminal justice.  We give full consideration to the needs of each commissioner in designing the course structure and contents.

Courses can be delivered anywhere in the UK.  Please let us know if you are interested in commissioning a course beyond these shores: we have previously run courses in Australia, Denmark, Belgium and Ireland.
