Leicestershire Shared Reading

Do you live in or near Leicestershire?  Would you like to contribute to the well-being of your local community while sharing your love of literature?

Leicestershire Shared Reading is a voluntary organisation that runs Shared Reading groups in nine public libraries across the county. The groups, originally established in 2014 as part of The Reader’s project in partnership with Leicestershire Libraries, are all led by Reader-trained volunteers, you can find details of how to find them by searching “Leicester” on our events page.

Since 2016Leicestershire Shared Reading have been delivering Shared Reading groups as an independent community group and the groups continue to thrive, welcoming up to 70 people each week.

Having secured funding from Big Lottery Fund and Leicestershire Public Health, Leicestershire Shared Reading is now in a position to recruit new Volunteer Reader Leaders to support the existing team. All new volunteers will receive training and ongoing support from The Reader and all expenses will be paid by Leicestershire Shared Reading.

Each volunteer will be expected to share the running of a group with another volunteer, and might typically lead up to one session a fortnight.

We are particularly keen to recruit volunteers to work alongside our existing group leaders at our groups in Wigston, Glenfield, Hinckley and Oadby. If you enjoy reading for pleasure, if you think you would be confident reading out loud to a group, and if you are interested in people and their stories, please get in touch with Nicky or Ruth to find out more:
