Colin is a dad in his mid 40’s and has never read a book before, ‘from beginning to end.’ He enjoys coming to the reading group to get out of the house for a bit and to have a bit of a break from the stresses and strains of his family life. He says of the reading group that it is ‘a bit of normality’ for him. On first attending the group he was pleasantly surprised and even found himself volunteering to read aloud. He said:
'It's good. I've never read like that before - I mean I've read aloud but I've never paid much attention to what I've been reading - you know thinking about the meaning of it and that. But this is good and we've got all that from this little story!'
He has now attended a total of 15 sessions and has been coming most weeks since the group began in July 2012. He has been reading short stories and poems in the group and is now looking forward to reading his first novel together with the group.
The Reader magazine offers a mix of new poetry and fiction, classic and neglected works and interviews with leading literary figures.
