With the support of Lloyds TSB Foundation and LCVS, the Everton Family Project, a family reading project in Liverpool, delivered a number of weekly storytime groups for children under 5 with their parents or carers in and around the Everton area. It was great to work with local families, and parents reported increased confidence levels when they read with their own children at home.
Favourite stories included Mrs Pirate by Nick Sharratt and The Runaway Train by Jess Stockham, as well as old favourites such as The Owl and the Pussycat and The Three Little Pigs! Parents were also encouraged to read for pleasure for themselves and we delivered a number of shared reading groups to meet this need in our efforts to embed a culture of reading for pleasure in every family home in Everton. Families involved in the Everton project were also eligible to receive free books via the Thrive at 5 book scheme that was being funded by LCVS.
