Since September 2011, we have been commissioned to deliver Get Into Reading in Forum Housing, a housing association which helps 16-25 year olds in housing need. Our Reader-in-Residence reads with young mothers and their babies who live in supported housing, going to their flats in Birkenhead to read aloud stories and poems, as well as singing songs and using simple instruments to add music to the reading.
As part of the Forum project, we also read with young people with vulnerable mental health and train Forum staff to use shared reading as part of their jobs. In September 2012, the Forum project was commissioned for another year. In its first twelve months, The Reader Organisation and Forum’s innovative partnership engaged over 70 young people in reading great literature aloud together over the last 12 months. Young parents and their children, residents, and staff have all participated in the group sessions, building self-confidence, self-awareness and contributing to a vibrant reading community.

The Reader magazine offers a mix of new poetry and fiction, classic and neglected works and interviews with leading literary figures.
