North East

'The groups overall relaxed and soothing atmosphere seems to draw me near and fill some sort of need in me I did not know was there.' - shared reading group member, HMP Frankland

Our North East team are delivering shared reading projects across the North East, including the following settings:

Criminal Justice

  • HMP Durham
  • HMP Frankland
  • HMP Low Newton
  • HMP Northumberland

Our work in Criminal Justice settings has been extended beyond the prison through the Reading In Secure Environments (RISE) project. Funded by Arts Council England, RISE has brought high-quality, challenging contemporary writers to readers in secure criminal justice and mental health care settings in partnership with an exciting range of literature festivals around the UK.

Community and Library

  • ‘Time for Me’, shared reading group at Newcastle City Library
