“I never thought I would have all this confidence that I have got out of it” – shared reading group volunteer

The Reader Organisation provides a range of volunteering opportunities in Liverpool and Merseyside, London, North Wales and the South West to be trained as reading group assistants and facilitators, as well as in office admin roles at our bases.

Volunteering is recognised as delivering important health and wellbeing benefits. Government health policy highlights its role in:

  • Building social capital, reducing isolation and keeping people active, engaged and independent
  • Creating people-centred services, delivering choice and innovation
  • Enhancing the capacity of preventative care

As well as the wellbeing benefits, 71% of our volunteers have enjoyed having had the opportunity to meet people that they wouldn’t usually meet in their day-to-day lives.
