An Afternoon with The Reader with special guest Liz Berry

Friday 22 November
Free

Rescheduled date: Friday 22 November (originally Friday 15 November)

Join The Reader at Wallasey Central Library for an afternoon of Shared Reading where we’ll be focusing on award-winning poet, Liz Berry’s novel-in-verse ‘The Home Child’.

With her debut collection named poetry book of the year by The Guardian, Liz Berry’s poems are a firm favourite with Shared Reading groups. She will be joining us live to read from and talk about The Home Child, a book length poem inspired by the true story of her great aunt as a child far from home. In 1908, Eliza Showell, twelve years old and newly orphaned, boards a ship that will carry her from the slums of the Black Country to rural Nova Scotia.

Copies of the book will be available to purchase with the opportunity to have them signed.

Best suited for 16+

No prior reading experience is required. There is no pressure to read aloud – sit back, relax and listen.
