Organic Pattern Design
About this Event
Taking inspiration from natural forms and the stunning ironwork found in the Calderstones parkland, participants will create sketches and detailed drawings to build up visual information for an illustration project.
Monday 6, 13 and 20 April, 11:00 - 17:00, £125 for 3 week course.
Investigate how nature and organic patterns have influenced illustrators and designers throughout history, particularly focusing on art nouveau. From printed material each student will choose a subject which appeals to them and will practice drawing either the whole of it or a small section, noting symmetry, form, elegance, repetition, interweaving.
The course will culminate in using your sketches to create your very own artwork. Students can choose whether their artwork is a design for jewellery, an illustration border or textile pattern. The artist tutor will show students how to take a small detail and repeat it to make a pattern, as well as techniques of laying out a circle or border with lines that can then be rubbed out afterwards.
