Sons and Lovers with Professor Philip Davis
A four-week Shared Reading experience hosted on Zoom. Pay what you feel.
Philip Davis, University of Liverpool, invites you to join in with four 90-minute sessions of online Shared Reading exploring D.H. Lawrence’s novel, Sons and Lovers, commencing Thursday 22 April at 3.30pm.
Phil writes: 'I am going to write about this autobiographical story of a miner’s son, growing up in Nottinghamshire amidst all sorts of emotional tensions, and am looking for a group of enthusiastic people to help discuss it with me. There is no need to read or re-read the novel in advance, though please do so if you like: either way, selected passages as the focus for close and careful discussion will be sent out ahead of each week’s meeting.'
- The first week (22 April) will concentrate on chapter 4, Paul Morel and his family
- Week 2 (29 April) on chapter 7, Paul’s youthful relationship with Miriam
- Week 3 (6 May) on chapters 10-12, the relationship with Clara in place of Miriam
- Week 4 (13 May) the end, chapters 14 and 15
