Sunday School: Willa Cather
The Reader Sunday School’s are an opportunity to delve deeper into a work of great literature and connect with other book lovers. This February’s Sunday School is set to get musical as The Reader’s Founder, Dr Jane Davis, and Emeritus Professor Philip Davis, University of Liverpool, explore the wonderful novel, The Song of the Lark.
Written by Willa Cather in 1915, The Song of the Lark is a tale of a small-town, mid-western girl’s growth into one of the world’s greatest classical singers.
To bring to life the emotional reality of a great artist’s life, we’ll also watch scenes from John Bridcut’s powerful and moving film about the life and work of Leeds-born singer Janet Baker, Janet Baker in Her Own Words.
You might want to read the novel in advance, as we won’t cover a huge amount in one day! But if you don’t manage to get that done, don’t worry - we’ll be structuring the day around a small number of chosen passages.
Ticket includes Soup (VE), Tea and Coffee.
There is an option to add a book when you book your ticket to the event (subject to availability). We'll have it ready to collect on the day of the event but if you wish to collect it sooner please email email@example.com
