We want to create a Shared Reading movement so that wherever you are in the UK you can find a group in a community near you.
What happens at a Shared Reading group?
Our Shared Reading groups meet every week, gathering together, often over a cup of tea and a biscuit. The Reader Leader will bring a story and poem to share with everyone aloud, either by them or willing members of the group – we never ask anyone to read unless they’d like to. Throughout the session, the group will pause to reflect on the story or poem, working out what’s going on together, sharing their thoughts about it, perhaps making personal connections to the literature.
Who are the groups for?
Everyone! We read with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Everything in our groups is read aloud. Shared Reading groups are free for group members to attend, everyone is welcome to join. Nearly all the groups listed below are open to all, a few are specifically for older people for example, when this is this case it will say that clearly in the group details.
Even if you wouldn’t call yourself a reader you will find a warm welcome from a group of people who are glad to have you there.

If you can’t find a group nearby get in touch and be part of the story. We’re always looking for potential partners or volunteers who can help us bring Shared Reading to new communities. Could you help?
