November’s Masterclasses
The month of November has not one but two wonderful Masterclasses to brighten up the darker days with the exploration of some hearty, warming literature. Shared Reading Facilitators who have completed Read to Lead can still have the chance to sign up to both of these sessions as we speak.
Coming up first, we're heading to Scotland for our first Masterclass on 'The Consequences of Beauty', taking place from 1-5pm on Monday 26th November in Edinburgh Central Library.
Why is it so important to acknowledge beauty in what we read? And what are the consequences of sharing this with others in a shared reading group? Can beauty be useful? Join Casi Dylan, The Reader Organisation's Literary Learning Manager, for an afternoon of exploring beauty in literature and its practical benefits.
Then we'll be in Liverpool for a very seasonal Masterclass on 'The Feel of Snow in Literature', 1-5pm on Wednesday 28th November in Blackburne House.
With winter almost upon us, come and spend a dark November afternoon diving deep into some mysteriously elusive and evocative snow-filled literature - from Thomas Hardy, Charlotte Mew, Robert Frost, and others. It’s an opportunity to think about how you’d approach poems and passages that require closer attention, that seem tricky at first, but will yield up treasures as we dig.
Masterclasses reaffirm and deepen understanding of what it means to be a reader, as well as a Shared Reading Facilitator. Places are free to those who are still in their first twelve months of ongoing learning, and are £25 after that. To make sure you reserve your place on either of these Masterclasses, please contact roisinhyland@thereader.org.uk or 0151 207 7207.
