Get Into Reading Gets Christmassy at Birkenhead Central Library
We're all feeling very festive here at The Reader Organisation HQ, with tinsel decking the halls (or, at least, the bookshelves) and seasonal reading aplenty going on, but Christmas came early last week for our Wirral team, who put on a spectacularly seasonal party at Birkenhead Central Library for many Get Into Reading members.
Wirral Project Worker Helen Wilson fills us in on all the merry activities...
Last Friday brave members of Get Into Reading Wirral braced themselves against the rain for some festive readings at Birkenhead Central Library. Our volunteers showed their mettle once more, battling against the weather to ensure we were ready on time and everything ran smoothly throughout – a big thanks to all involved.
After drying off we filled our plates at the overflowing buffet table and kicked off with Mike Harding’s Christmas Market, getting us thoroughly into the spirit of things. This was followed by George Meredith’s Winter Heavens, John Julius Norwich’s Twelve Days of Christmas, A Correspondence and, finally, a rousing rendition of A Visit From St Nicholas by Clement Clarke Moore.
We also enjoyed some impromptu seasonal singing as one Get Into Reading member revealed he had brought his guitar along. This and a good old Get Into Reading raffle and Christmas quiz finished things off nicely (though perhaps more so had I remembered to note down all the answers…)
Thank you to staff at Birkenhead Library and all our Wirral readers for such an enjoyable afternoon – a very merry Christmas and happy reading in 2013!
If the season of goodwill is getting to you, then why not take some time out to see what's happening at your local library? There are Get Into Reading groups - and much more besides - happening this week in Wirral Libraries. Share some reading to get into the festive spirit!
