Thank you to BBC Children in Need
Reading Heroes is a BBC Children in Need funded project that matches trained volunteers to read one-to-one with looked-after children aged between 5 and 15 years old.
Over the last year we’re delighted to have been able to read with over 40 children and young people. It’s been brilliant to see Reading Heroes working so well on Zoom during the pandemic, and we’re excited to say we’ve been able to start some in-person Shared Reading sessions again too.
Here’s Jenny*, aged seven, to tell you about it in her own words…
‘If I had to describe Reading Heroes to my friends then I would say that you make a new friend who reads with you every week and we have lots of fun. My favourite book was called You Choose because I could change the story every time I read it so it was always different. I really liked it when Anna would read because she was good at doing voices. I really miss Anna but I have lots of books which make me remember her so that makes me happy.’
*Names have been changed
A massive thanks to BBC Children In Need for funding this fantastic project over the last three years. We look forward to Reading Heroes growing from strength to strength.
