Calderstones_park_path_c_Dave_JonesWelcome to the blog for the Caldies Big Dig!

We're very excited to introduce the Big Dig blog and to gear up for the Big Dig at Calderstones Park, a community dig which will bring people closer to the park than they're likely to have ever got before. Together over a period of two weeks digging, we'll discover the ancient history of Calderstones - and perhaps even find things that have never been unearthed before...

This exciting new project is led by The Reader Organisation in conjunction with National Museums Liverpool, and has been made possible thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund which supports projects dedicated to bringing cherished historic buildings back to active use, giving them a new purpose, conserving them for future generations and crucially helping people to understand more about the heritage that is around them.

HLFHI_BLKSince being awarded Preferred Bidder Status for Calderstones Mansion House in January 2013, The Reader Organisation has been running regular shared reading activities and community events and are in the processes of restoring the building to its former glory in order to create an centre for reading and wellbeing. The beautiful surroundings of Calderstones Park continue to be an important part of this restoration and we will celebrate the landscape and archeological heritage of the park, which includes creating a permanent home for the Calder Stones and undergoing the Caldies Big Dig to see what other treasures can be discovered...

Do you want to be a part of the Caldies Big Dig? We need your help!

We are looking for volunteers from the community to join in! Volunteers are required for a minimum of 2 days each to take part in the dig.
