The Reader at Calderstones – important site update
After careful consideration, we have made the decision to close some of our operations at Calderstones until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic. We believe this is the right thing to do in the interests of the health and wellbeing our group members, volunteers, customers, visitors and staff.
Today (Tuesday 17 March 2020) will be the last day of operation, for now, for:
- Storybarn
- Gallery
- Ice Cream Parlour
- All events and all commercial classes (including art and yoga) as well as all community groups, such as Shared Reading
The Café and toilets will remain open for the time being.
Event cancellations
We will be cancelling all events until 1 May and we will be in touch with anyone who holds a ticket to a cancelled event; there is no need to contact us. In the event that we find alternative dates to host some of these events, we will contact customers with options. As we receive more information about events beyond 1 May, we will be in touch with customers immediately. Please bear with us at this time.
In the meantime, we are exploring ways for how The Reader, and what we have here on site at Calderstones and in the Mansion House, can play a part in supporting the community.
Follow us on Twitter and Facebook at @Calderstones to keep updated.
Until then, we’ll leave you with this reading of Wendell Berry’s true and heartening poem, The Slip - “It will heal”.
