Jane Davis awarded MBE
Founder and Director of The Reader Organisation, Jane Davis, has been awarded an MBE for her services to Reader Development.
Jane set up the first Get Into Reading group in a small library in Birkenhead with young single mums. This five-week pilot was so successful that it led to the development of a continuous, and growing Get Into Reading project: there are now over 250 Get Into Reading groups meeting weekly across the UK, over 200 of them on Merseyside.
On hearing that she had won this accolade, Jane said:
“I’m delighted to receive this honour on behalf of The Reader Organisation and my colleagues who work with such enthusiasm and dedication to spread the love of reading. Together, we read aloud with over 1000 people each week and this honour celebrates the achievements of those readers, some of whom have overcome the most restricting difficulties to develop a relationship with the written word.”
1000 congratulations to you, Jane!
