Liverpool’s first children’s literature centre opens alongside Oliver Jeffers exhibition bringing books to life for young people
The Reader at Calderstones will be opening their newly created children’s literature space The Storybarn on February 8 2016 alongside an exciting new interactive exhibition, ‘Once There was…The Wonderful World of Oliver Jeffers’.
Once ticket goers have explored the exhibition housed within Calderstones Mansion House they’ll be able to head over to The Storybarn, with its interactive story space allowing visitors to explore, play and interact with literary adventures. Storytellers will also bring the barn to life with a variety of tales and craft activity throughout their visitor experience. Tickets for both exhibitions will go on sale from January 2016 however those wishing to gain priority booking, as demand is likely to be high can register their interest now at www.thestorybarn.org.uk
The Wonderful World of Oliver Jeffers is an immersive exhibition designed especially for children aged 3-6. It has been conceived, designed and produced by Discover Children’s Story Centre in consultation with Rory and Oliver Jeffers. The exhibition setting focuses on Jeffers’ popular books How to Catch A Star, Lost and Found, Up and Down and The Way Back Home. Key aspects of these beautiful books have been reimagined into 3D such as the South Pole, the boy’s bedroom, a garden featuring a rocket, a street of magical shops and a Lost and Found Office.
Holly Wagstaff, Storybarn Developer says:
“We really hope the Oliver Jeffers exhibition and opening of The Storybarn will give families and young people a place to play, learn and fall in love with stories. Opening up literary doors to children of all ages, from those attending our tiny reads sessions for under 5’s to young adults exploring the best of great literature and crafts. We can’t wait to see people enjoying both spaces but are especially excited to have The Storybarn as a fixed space for the future”
Tickets to both exhibitions will be £9 per child including a free adult for a two hour experience. Once the Oliver Jeffers exhibition has closed entry to The Storybarn will be £5 per child with group rates available for large parties and schools. The Oliver Jeffers exhibition will close on the 18 of April 2016. Tickets for the exhibitions cannot be purchased separately.
