I’m halfway through the nominated Pigeon English, and I have to say I’m enjoying it a lot. It is slightly similar to The Curious Incident… in that it is told from the perspective of a young male taking it upon himself to investigate a crime, and includes the odd little drawing in the middle of the text. The use of contemporary juvenile slang is making me feel old as it takes me a while to realise what it means, but it is a good illustration of the evolution of language, and how you can pick up new words and indeed new meanings of words relatively easily. To borrow a bit of language from the main character Harri – this book is ‘bo-styles’! I could talk about it for ‘donkey hours’.
