Meet the Volunteer: Lynda

Name: Lynda Carey
Location: The Mansion House, Liverpool
Role: Volunteer at The Reader’s home in Calderstones Park, predominantly in its Heritage Area which explores the history of Liverpool and the Mansion House and the 5,000 year-old Calder Stones which give the Park its name.
Why did you decide to volunteer with The Reader?
I chose to volunteer at the Reader as I’m committed to the purpose of the organisation and value the difference reading can make to the individual and community. I enjoy making a small contribution to this important organisation.
What do you love most about your volunteer role?
I enjoy volunteering at the Reader, it gives me the opportunity to be part of the local community, meet people and share our local history.
Any insights or learnings you’ve gained about people, the world, literature, or yourself through your volunteering?
Volunteering has enabled me to learn from others. I like hearing and learning from the people who visit the Mansion House, including their own stories and knowledge of the park and the Calder Stones. I enjoy the opportunity to talk to people and make connections through our stories.
