Social Enterprise 100 Index
The Reader Organisation is proud to announce that we have been included in the 2012 RBS Social Enterprise 100 Index, an index which tracks the financial progress and positive impact of the UK's social businesses.
The Reader Organisation grew by 23% in 2012, placing us at #70 in the top 100 UK social businesses and confirming our positive social impact, entrepreneurial flair, and sustainability.
As a social enterprise we "do business for good", reinvesting trading income in order to benefit the local communities where we work. Our Get Into Reading groups bring people together, improving wellbeing and social interaction as well as reaching those who may not otherwise have access to literature. Since 2008, our social business has more than doubled its income, increased staff numbers by over 200% and increased its Get Into Reading group activity by nearly 300%.
Last year we received the Social Enterprise Mark, a certification which demonstrates that social objectives are at the heart of what we do, so we're thrilled with this new recognition of our expanding activity and its valuable impact. We hope to continue this positive track record with our newest project, creating an International Centre for Reading and Wellbeing at Calderstones Mansion in Liverpool.
