Stories Before Bedtime: Sporting Stories
It's soon time for another brilliant Stories Before Bedtime at the Criterion Theatre in London - and this edition promises to be a Olympian-sized event, in every sense of the word, featuring some of literature's funniest and most iconic sporting tales, read by three of Britain's biggest and most beloved actors.
Brian Blessed will be booming out in his inimitable style an extract from WE Bowman's short novel of mountaineering exploits The Ascent of Rum Doodle - especially apt as Brian is a keen mountaineer himself, and holds the record for being the oldest man to reach 28,400 ft on Mount Everest without oxygen (perhaps he could have given our Three Peaks Team some advice...). Joining Brian on a veritably star-studded bill are Stephen Fry, who will be reading some PG Wodehouse, and marathon man Eddie Izzard.
It's sure to be a super sporting, riveting night of reading aloud!
Stories Before Bedtime, held by the Criterion and in partnership with Vintage Books and The Reader Organisation, is a series of special late-night readings celebrating and championing the love of reading, transporting the audience back to a time when being read to aloud before bed was a fundamental part of life.
