Welly Walks make a welcome return to Calderstones Park
The Storybarn has teamed up with our Heritage team to work on some wonderful new Welly Walks around Calderstones Park.
Welly Walks are family-friendly strolls led by our Heritage Guides, focusing on different themes to do with the park’s history. Each walk will be combined with a picture book to add some Storybarn magic to these gentle excursions!
Holly Gilson, our Heritage Coordinator explained: ‘Calderstones Park has over 4,000 years of rich and exciting history. Welly Walks are a fantastic opportunity for families to discover these stories from the past and learn about how the local area has changed over time. You’ll never look at the park in the same way again!’
Our Welly Walks are best suited to children aged 4 – 9 and their adults, but younger (and older!) children will enjoy them too. Tickets are £4 and on-sale now – book here.
Here’s when our next walks are coming up, and what we’ll be exploring on each trip:
Saturday 16 October – Harvest
10am, 11.30am and 2pm
In our autumn walk we’ll be comparing harvests at three different points in our history. What did a Stone Age harvest look like? How did the Victorians celebrate? And what are harvests like today?
Our Heritage Guide will be on hand with facts, fun and a ready ear to answer any questions!
Saturday 22 January 2022 - World War Two
10am, 11.30am and 2pm
Imagine what Liverpool was like during the Second World War and meet some of the brave characters from history, including Calderstones Park's very own canine war hero, Jett of Iada.
Saturday 19 March 2022 - Edwardian Children at the Park
10am, 11.30am and 2pm
What was park life like for Edwardian children growing up in Liverpool before the advent of scooters, mobile phones and climbing frames? And what on earth did they do before the introduction of the Ice Cream Parlour?! Travel back in time on this fascinating Welly Walk to find out!
