John Burnside wins 2012 TS Eliot prize

Scottish poet John Burnside has won what has been dubbed the "most controversial TS Eliot poetry prize in years", after two of the original shortlisted poets - John Kinsella and Alice Oswald - dropped out in protest over funding. Controversy aside, his collection Black Cat Bone, which also won the Forward Prize, has beaten collections by the poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy, Sean O'Brien, David Harsent, and my favourite for the prize, Bernard O'Donoghue. Burnside's collection has been described by the Guardian as a "haunting collection that has a hard won serenity".
