The Reader is named best UK Charity in The Big Give Christmas Challenge Awards
The Reader is thrilled to have been recognised as the best UK charity in The Big Give Christmas Challenge Awards following the success of our 2016 Christmas Challenge campaign to support socially isolated Older People through Shared Reading.
Of the 58 entrants, 21 charities were shortlisted for the Christmas Challenge Awards across 11 categories. Winners were announced on Monday 12 February, with cash prizes of £1,000 and upward.
Dr Jane Davis, founder and director of The Reader, said:
"We're thrilled that we have been recognised for our outstanding work with The Big Give Christmas Challenge campaign, but the real recognition needs to go the wider Reader family who donated, helped us spread the word and continue to support our Shared Reading projects across the UK.
Special thanks must also to go the Postcode Support Trust and The Pilgrim Trust who matchfunded our campaign."
Sir Alec Reed CBE, Founder of The Big Give commented:
"I was delighted to see such a high calibre of entries for the Christmas Challenge Awards. These charities have demonstrated the scope of what is possible in terms of strategically and creatively engaging with supporters through the campaign and I’m sure that their work will provide inspiration for other participating charities. All the shortlisted charities deserve recognition for standing out amongst a set of excellent entries, and congratulations to the winners on their outstanding work."
