The Blue and Green Ark: An Alphabet for Planet Earth

As we mentioned in last week's Featured Poem, Brian Patten appears in Issue 46 of The Reader (which is out now), detailing the story behindStepfather, a poem that broaches the difficult subject of turbulent family relationships.

It should be mentioned that there is a lighter side to Brian's poetry - he has also written many poems and collections for children over the years, including the brilliantly named Thawing Frozen Frogs and Gargling With Jelly. His latest children's poetry book is the beautifulThe Blue and Green Ark: An Alphabet for Planet Earth.Going through the alphabet, and taking each letter in turn, the poem celebrates and evokes the wonder of the natural world around us from the creatures who swim in the depths of the oceans, to the heavens above us and the galaxies beyond. Wonderfully composed and beautifully illustrated, it will appeal to readers young and old.
