What’s On in the world of Literary Learning

Written by Lisa Spurgin, 31st May 2013

We're on the cusp of a new month, and there's lots of exciting things in The Reader Organisation's Literary Learning calendar to keep you reading, learning and thinking about literature as summer begins to heat up.

Sharing Reading Experience MastheadHere's a little look at what's coming up on the horizon - no matter what kind of reader you are, there's sure to be something for you.

Upcoming Masterclasses

Read to Lead graduates can join staff from The Reader Organisation for these very special sessions designed to deepen understanding and improve practice as as a shared reading practitioner as part of their Ongoing Learning.

Rites of Passage *special evening slot*
5-8pm, Thursday 18th July, Calderstones Mansion House, Liverpool

For this session, we will each bring along a passage which has been deeply, personally meaningful for us and share them with each other: good shared reading practice is personal - fed by our own reading lives - and this Masterclass will create a living reading list, inspiring you to read texts which have inspired and influenced others.

Interrupted: Dealing with interruptions in shared reading groups with Amanda Brown
2-5.30pm, Monday 5th August, London (Venue TBC)

Shared reading sessions have interruptions as a built-in feature – the pauses for discussion enabling people to compare the truths of the literature with their own truths. But how long should we stay there and how do we get back? Join Criminal Justice Projects Manager Amanda Brown to discover more about how literary interruptions can be used to focus our discussion of shared reading best practice.

Read to Lead graduates can get more information on both of these Masterclasses by visiting our website and contacting Literary Learning Coordinator Roisin Hyland.
