Featured Poem: A Slash of Blue by Emily Dickinson
Written by Francesca Dolan, 2nd August 2021
Our Featured Poem is brought to us by The Reader's, Emma Taylor. Today’s choice is ‘A Slash of Blue’ by Emily Dickinson, a foreboding war poem rich with colour and hidden metaphors.
A Slash of Blue
A slash of Blue --
A sweep of Gray --
Some scarlet patches on the way,
Compose an Evening Sky --
A little purple -- slipped between --
Some Ruby Trousers hurried on --
A Wave of Gold --
A Bank of Day --
This just makes out the Morning Sky.
A sweep of Gray --
Some scarlet patches on the way,
Compose an Evening Sky --
A little purple -- slipped between --
Some Ruby Trousers hurried on --
A Wave of Gold --
A Bank of Day --
This just makes out the Morning Sky.
